A new non-prescription version of the drug lansoprazole is now available. This product is known as Prevacid 24 HR. The purpose of it is to provide complete relief of heartburn symptoms within 24 hours.
The main purpose of this drug is to reduce the amount of acid in the stomach. It is intended for people who have heartburn problems two or more days in a week.
Here are some facts and warnings concerning this medication:
- This product is not intended for immediate relief of symptoms. Typically, results take place within 24 hours, and this drug is often taken once a day for up to four days in a row.
- This product should not be taken if you are allergic to the lansoprazole active substance of which it is made. Be careful about what medications you take it with as well. For instance, it should not be mixed with the following:
Certain antifungal or anti-yeast meds, heart regulation drugs, and any other over the counter medication or natural supplement that you doctor warns you of.
- If you are a person who has trouble swelling food or you have just recently vomited blood do not use. Likewise, if your stool is black or bloody do not use it. If this is the case with you, you are advised to get checked right away.
- You should report any existing health conditions. For instance, do you have trouble breathing or do you wheeze quite a bit? Do you have an irregular heartbeat or do you have frequent chest or upper arm pains?
- Your doctor should know about the above-mentioned serious problems or any other health complication-no matter how major or minor! You could even save your life if you are completely honest about your present or past health history.
- Prevacid 24 HR is a non-prescription lansoprazole treatment that should be taken exactly as directed. For instance, you should never take more than one capsule daily and you should never chew it but just swallow it whole.
- Typically, this drug is not meant to be taken more than 14 days at a time. The only exception would be if you are instructed to do so by the doctor.
- Although the non-prescription version of this treatment should not usually be taken more than 14 days at a time, it can be repeated in time. If you need to use this drug again it can be taken as early as four months later.
