Lansoprazole is the generic drug, which has been sold under numerous brand names in different countries. It also has been sold as an over the counter treatment called Prevacid 24HR.
Uses of prescription and non-prescription Prevacid and other lansoprazole drugs include the following:
The easiest form of lansoprazole to obtain is the non-prescription Prevacid 24R that has just recently become available as a non-prescription. It is typically taken over a 14-day period unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
One capsule should be taken once a day before breakfast. The tablet should not be chewed at all but rather should just be swallowed completely as is. Results are usually noticed within 24 hours at the earliest.
You should ask your doctor before taking Prevacid or other braned or generic equivalents. You should be especially concerned if you are suing Warfarin or other blood thinning medication.
You should also be very careful about combining even the non-prescription form of lansoprazole with any medicines and a complete health evaluation is recommended. Other areas of concern are if you are taking a heart rate regulate medication.
You should also consult your doctor before taking this drug if you suffer one or more of the following conditions: liver disease, heart trouble, persistent heartburn (for at least three months); lightheadedness, sweating, or dizziness; chest or shoulder pain, shortness of breath, severe and frequent wheezing, rapid weight loss, nausea or vomiting, or stomach pain.
It is highly recommended that you inform your doctor or a nurse about any existing health conditions. It does not matter how minor of a problem it may seem to be to you.
It should be made known, and you should even make known all natural herbs, vitamins, or supplements you take. It is better to be safe than to be sorry.
